Asked Questions
How will you work with communities and landowners?
Openly and early. Before any work begins, we run a formal public participation process led by an experienced, independent practitioner. Landowners, lawful occupiers, traditional authorities, municipalities and community members are informed, can ask questions and can raise concerns, which are recorded and answered.
Do you need my permission to come onto my land?
The law requires a prospecting right holder to notify and consult the landowner or lawful occupier in writing before entering the land. We go further: we agree access routes, times and conditions with you, and we respect gates, livestock, crops and homes.
Will exploration affect my farming, livestock or water?
Early exploration is light. It means people on foot taking samples, and occasionally a small drill rig for a few days. We agree where we may and may not go, keep away from water sources and grazing where asked, and repair or compensate for any damage we cause.
What happens to the land after you leave?
Each site is rehabilitated under our approved environmental plan: holes are sealed, tracks restored and disturbed ground re-vegetated. The financial provision we set aside exists to guarantee this is done.
How can I raise a concern or complaint?
Contact us through the contact page or at hello@newrand.co.za. Every concern is recorded, and we will respond to you directly. You may also raise matters through the public participation process.
Will there be jobs and business opportunities for local people?
As work on the ground begins, we will prioritise local people for jobs such as field assistance, security and logistics, and local businesses for services such as accommodation, catering and transport.
